Reports indicate that Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, was urged by the party’s leadership to issue an apology to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo regarding his previous threat of a “showdown.”
According to Adakabre Frimpong Manso, host of Me Man Nti on Neat FM, during his appearance before the party’s disciplinary committee, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central adamantly refused this request.
Manso expressed his disappointment with the party’s handling of the situation, questioning whether they had any other recourse if Agyapong refused to apologize.
During the heat of the NPP’s Special Delegates Election on August 26, 2023, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a flagbearer hopeful, was captured on video making strong remarks aimed at President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who is also vying for the flagbearer position.
Agyapong’s outburst came in response to alleged threats and intimidation against his agents during the election process.
As a result, he was summoned and subjected to a five-hour grilling session by the party’s disciplinary committee.
The details of this meeting have not been made public, and the NPP has scheduled a national delegates congress for November 4, 2023, to select its flagbearer for the 2024 presidential election.
