James Gyakye, the Member of Parliament for Assin North, has lodged a petition with the General Legal Council (GLC) accusing Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame of “professional misconduct.”
Gyakye’s complaint centers on an incident that occurred on June 16, 2023, when his lawyer was addressing the court about his candidacy in the Assin North parliamentary by-election. He alleges that during this time, Attorney-General Dame used insulting language against him.
Gyakye stated, “This gratuitous insult on the part of the Attorney-General was without any basis and had no place in the trial, and I am advised by my lawyers, is contrary to the Rules of Professional Conduct of lawyers.”
The Assin North MP’s petition to the GLC marks an escalation in the ongoing legal dispute surrounding his eligibility to serve as a Member of Parliament. The case revolves around the question of whether or not he was properly elected in the parliamentary by-election.
It is now up to the General Legal Council to review the allegations of professional misconduct against Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame and take appropriate action based on the evidence presented by both parties.
