In a startling revelation before a parliamentary committee, Superintendent George Asare, a senior police officer implicated in a plot to remove Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, made damning accusations against Daniel Bugri Naabu, the former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Asare hinted that Bugri Naabu had recommended the use of Mallams (spiritual practitioners) to aid in their efforts to remove the IGP. During his testimony, he claimed that Bugri Naabu suggested three specific Mallams for this purpose and insisted on fighting the IGP both physically and spiritually.
He recounted Bugri Naabu’s statements, mentioning that Bugri Naabu had helped individuals secure positions in the past through spiritual support. Asare, however, expressed his objections to the idea of seeking spiritual assistance, but Bugri Naabu remained steadfast in his belief that it was necessary.
Asare clarified that he wasn’t lobbying for anyone to become IGP and emphasized that it was Bugri Naabu who initiated the conversation. Bugri Naabu allegedly made it clear that the challenge of removing the IGP required both physical and spiritual efforts.
Furthermore, Asare stated that Bugri Naabu had recommended several Imams who could offer prayers to assist in the endeavor, along with three specific Mallams, some of whom were from Bugri Naabu’s village.
Asare highlighted that Bugri Naabu was aware of the Christian background of COP Alex Mensah, another senior officer involved in the matter, but still insisted on consulting Mallams for spiritual guidance.
He also pointed out that the leaked audio, which had raised controversy, omitted the part where he had objected to the use of Mallams, suggesting that the tape had been doctored to serve a specific agenda.
These revelations have stirred significant interest and discussion among the public and within political circles, raising questions about the involvement of spiritual practices in political and professional matters.
